FORMULA VEE 1200 – STEPHEN CANNON CLOSES IN
Daniel Reynolds leads Dylan Thomas to win three from three Stephen Cannon wins Round 4 in 1200’s Twenty seven Formula Vees started Round 4 of the 2011 CAMS NSW Formula Vee State Championship at Wakefield Park on wet, cold, and muddy conditions on the Saturday morning, but by Sunday afternoon, Daniel Reynolds and Stephen Cannon held the trophies for the 1600 and 1200 class wins.
Daniel Reynolds continued his clean sweep of all races throughout 2011, winning all three Wakefield Park races, plus the Eastern Creek Round 3 replay race on Saturday afternoon, making it nine wins of the nine Championship races completed so far in 2011 in his Vintage Vee Dub Supplies Sabre 02.
The other 1600 drivers threw everything they had at him, with Dylan Thomas and Mick Kinsella landing a few punches, but Daniel used his driving class and his Sabre?s extraordinary capabilities to lead the races safely over the line, only one spin in the wet conditions throughout the weekend near the end of Race 3 giving his competitors any hope of a race win.
Meanwhile Stephen Cannon endured ups and downs, racing amid the 1600?s and ahead of the other 1200 Formula Vees throughout the weekend, except on occasions when some encouragement from other Vees sent him off the circuit, with Stephen recovering each time to finish in the top three in the 1200 class. Throughout the 58 laps of wet and muddy racing at Wakefield Park, only one minor Safety Car period was required, proving that the highest quality of race card driving skill is alive and present in Formula Vee.
