DYLAN THOMAS WINS 1600’S TWO YEARS STRAIGHT!
MICHAEL GALE TAKES OUT THE 1200’S!
Rain and wind struck Formula Vee again at the fifth round of the FVANSW Club Pointscore round at Ringwood last weekend, with thunderstorms and mud making every Formula Vee in NSW event this year wet and cold. Dylan Thomas won both the 1600 and Invitation classes Michael Gale won the 1200 trophy with a great time! After the last of the 12 runs, Dylan Thomas took out his second straight FVANSW Hillclimb trophy, while Michael Gale blitzed the other 1200?s and several 1600?s to take home the 1200 trophy, with what was to be the second fastest outright time! Leigh Porter took out second place in the 1600’s Former Vee great, Ralph Merkel, tested his Evo Dylan was followed in the 1600 class by Leigh Porter, Rodney French (in perhaps his most attacking drive of the year), and then Adam Coppock in the ex-Nathan Brumby Stinger in a fine Rookie drive.
In the 1200?s, Michael Gale entertainingly nudged out Formula Vee Legend, Stephen Butcher, by just 0.13 of a second. The FVANSW was honoured to have Alan Harrison, Mat?s dad, not only as a visitor to the event, but as a competitor driving Stephen Butcher?s number 13 Stinger, in which he earned the third place 1200 trophy in a fabulous Rookie performance. Bernie Cannon took out fourth place despite some engine dramas, while Stephen Cannon?s day was ruined by the enginesoaking rain. Adam Coppock took out the Rookie Award Mr CXC, Dave Thomas, had the most fun. In the invitation class, Dylan Thomas beat his dad, “Mr CXC” Dave Thomas, in their shared GT Evo, while Former Vee great, Ralph Merkel, tried out his Evo on the challenging Ringwood circuit. Bernie Cannon struck problems, but still got a run in. Rodney French gave it all and took out third. The challenging conditions at Ringwood proved how much the competitors love to drive their Formula Vees, with their driving skill confirmed by not one of them having dislodged a single witches hat all day – the first time ever at Ringwood, according to the track owners, the MG Car Club of New Castle.
