NIGHT RACE A HUGE SUCCESS!
To help celebrate 30 years of racing at Sydney Motor Sport Park, round 4 of the NSW Mortor Racing Championship was held as a day/night race meeting. After undergoing a multi million dollar lighting upgrade earlier in the year Sydney Motor Sport Park delivered an exceptional race experience for Formula Vee and other categories.
With 25 cars taking to the grid across both 1200cc and 1600cc classes the night race proved to be spectacular viewing as the only open wheeler class took to the track. With past NSW Champion, Jason Cutts, sitting on Pole Position and many front runners starting from the rear of the grid the night race didn't disappoint!
Aaron Lee and Dylan Thomas had near perfect starts that saw them both move from from the rear of the grid to the front pack by turn two, having worked their way through a compress pack immediately after the start.
It was close racing among the front pack with the podium positions changing constantly. Aaron Pace took the checkered flag over Aaron lee by 1/100th of a second with Simon Pace, Jason Cutts and Craig Sparke rounding out the top five.
The 1200cc category also enjoyed some close racing with the front runners mixing it with and beating several 1600cc cars. Former National Champion, Mathew Pearce lead the whole race with Former NSW Champion Steve Butcher coming in second. Pearce finished 11th overall while Butcher finished 14th ahead of four 1600cc cars. Third place in the 1200cc class went to Michael Gale which saw him secure 3rd place in all three races over the weekend.
Night racing will return in 2021 and we are hopeful that the events will attract interest from other states.
